History

The Company was started in 1955 by John Crichton who after several years in the Slipe Wool Industry, decided to venture out on his own.

Progressively the Company grew with the contributions of various staff members and although specialising in Slipe and Lamb wools, business also spread into most greasy and shorn types.

John retired from the Company in 1994 but by then the business was operating under the management and ownership of Colin White who had joined the Company some 25 years earlier. Michael Inkson arrived in the same year (1994) and progessively developed into a senior role sharing trading and management responsibilities.

Mark Hunter joined the Company in 2002 after several years overseas in Banking, Finance and Administration positions and looks after these areas within the Company.

J.L. Crichton & Co (or "JLC.Co") considers itself one of the leading specialists in New Zealand Slipe Wool having also been heavily involved in the New Zealand Slipe Wool Industry Association with both John and later Colin serving lengthy terms as President.

100% New Zealand owned

The Company Remains 100% New Zealand owned and will continue this way. Whilst staying relatively small by choice this has been in order to maintain a policy of quality and service to its clients by meeting individual customers special requirements, and building ongoing relationships.

In our 50+ years the Company has seen some difficult trading periods and many changes in the Industry here in New Zealand and around the world but we have adapted as we go as a dedicated team working together to offer our knowledge and advice on the most suitable wools for each individual client.
